Conducted the controlled pollination experiment from which the nucellar seedling was recovered.
A 1940 controlled-pollination experiment using Miyagawa-Wase and trifoliate orange produced seeds from which three sister maternal nucellar seedlings were recovered. They were selected as promising strains in 1949.
Conducted the 1940 controlled pollination and development work from which the nucellar Okitsu Wase selection arose.
Okitsu Wase originated in 1940 as a nucellar seedling of Miyagawa Wase satsuma at the Horticultural Research Station in Okitsu. M. Kajiura and T. Iwasaki had pollinated Miyagawa with Poncirus trifoliata, but the selected Okitsu plant arose from a nucellar embryo rather than from the sexual hybrid embryo.
