Notes
A late-ripening Italian mandarin selection belonging to Citrus deliciosa. It originated in Ciaculli, a citrus-growing district near Palermo, and is widely regarded as a late-maturing selection of the Mediterranean Willowleaf (Avana) mandarin.
“Avana” is the traditional Italian name used for Willowleaf-type mandarins, while “tardivo” means late, referring to its notably delayed ripening compared to standard Avana selections.
Information from Australia states that it is 6 - 8 weeks later than 'Imperial' (which has a maturity similar to 'Owari' satsuma). The fruit are sweet, low seeded, have reduced "bores" (central columns), are somewhat flat, and have a pale orange or yellow rind.
