Benton Citrange
NSW DPI Citrus Team · State of New South Wales through NSW Department of Primary Industries · 2005-12
Primefact 22/173, first edition (PUB22/173), December 2005. This official NSW DPI edition is the same Benton rootstock fact sheet previously cited through an Auscitrus URL; the stable source #1 is refreshed rather than duplicated. Its origin section supports the 1945 programme, nondirectional Ruby Blood sweet orange × Poncirus trifoliata parentage, NSW trial and seed-release context. Its field-performance fruit/tree statements concern named scions grafted on Benton and must retain that rootstock context.

Summary from transcript: Two formerly neglected, poorly drained Benton plants showed no observed winter damage; the speaker also noted a late-ripening concern (24:02–25:33).

Summary from transcript: Benton fruit supplied by Brad at Lyn Citrus was very juicy and mostly seedless, with difficult peel removal, orange/floral flavor and only mild trifoliate character. The two weighed fruits were 146 g and 114 g; the presenter reported pH 3.0, enjoyed eating Benton fresh and suggested juice, marmalade and baking. His fairly sweet and very low bitterness impressions differ somewhat from the matching scorecard labels.

Undated companion taste-test card for the same California Benton fruit sample shown in the video. It reports weights, 11 °Brix, pH 3.0, category labels, and scores. It is a supporting citation to combine with the video in one fruit observation, not a second sample.

Summary from transcript: English auto-generated captions reviewed 0:01–3:23 of the 3:26 video. The speaker identifies a Benton citrange and reports it died after a warm spell followed by frost the prior spring. The event temperature, duration, tree age and rootstock are unspecified; the separately reported current 18°F is not attributed to that earlier event.

User-provided excerpt attributed to Josue’s four-taster group report, with fruit obtained from Stan McKenzie the prior week in South Carolina zone 8a. This entry records only the Benton portion. The underlying thread has not been independently retrieved; exact accession, fruit count, maturity, and method are not stated. Four tasters is the number of tasters, not a stated fruit sample count.

Hall et al. evaluated citrus-relative seedling populations for Asian citrus psyllid (ACP) colonization. Table 2 includes Benton, CRC 3908, in a September 2013 free-choice test. Table 2’s egg-density rating differs significantly from the susceptible check under the table’s letter-group test, although the discussion broadly says no Citroncirus accession showed reduced oviposition; retain that discrepancy. These data are not orchard-level HLB-control evidence.
