Bloomsweet Grapefruit

Bloomsweet, also known as Kinkoji, is a yellow-fruited citrus. UCR’s Kinkoji CRC 3465 accession records large, yellow-orange fruit; grower descriptions of Bloomsweet fruit include pummelo, orange, and lemon-like flavors despite the grapefruit name.^{⁠[8]⁠[10]⁠[11]⁠[1]}

Fruit quality varies among reported samples. Clayton Bell described thick pith, tough membranes and limited juice from his Houston tree, then praised fruit from a different tree in his February 2020 update. The Mulberries’ late-picked February sample weighed 580 g and read 9 °Brix; it peeled readily after starting and was judged dessert-quality, though somewhat dry and possibly overripe.^{⁠[8]⁠[10]}

In Austin, Scott of New Garden Road reported canopy loss during February 2021 after single-digit Fahrenheit weather and six days below freezing. The wrapped graft/base survived; later protection with frost cloth and incandescent lights helped preserve growth, with about a dozen fruit reported in 2024. This is a protected-tree recovery account, not an unprotected cold-hardiness limit.^⁠[11]
