Notes
An early lemon × trifoliate orange F₁ hybrid associated with Walter T. Swingle and preserved through UCR/CRC as accessions 1448 and 1449. It is notable for extreme morphological variability, including intensified trifoliate traits such as hypophyll development, making it a classic example of Swingle’s observations on hybrid instability and zygotaxis. While the exact year, lemon parent, and cross direction are undocumented, all modern nursery material appears to descend from a single Swingle-derived clone—most likely CRC 1449.
"I have one from Stan that is over 20 years old unprotected. It’s huge and has been down to 18° or below many times. The one we have at Madison Citrus is from River Side and I believe they are the same." - Hershell of Madison Citrus Nursery.
Selections include C-1448, C-1449, and C-46216.
