Encore Mandarin

Encore is a late-season mandarin developed by Howard B. Frost from King tangor × Willowleaf mandarin and introduced in 1965. Its oblate fruit has little or no neck, a thin, easily peeled yellow-orange rind, and deep-orange flesh. It is seedy: UCR reports 22–32 seeds per fruit for Encore, compared with 1.7–3.5 for the irradiated selection EncoreLS.The 1966 release paper reports May–June ripening at Riverside, with fruit usually remaining in good condition into August or September. It describes the tree as moderately vigorous, with slender branches, few thorns, and a tendency toward alternate bearing.^{⁠[1]⁠[2]⁠[3]}
