Eureka Lemon

UCR’s account says seeds from Italian-origin lemon fruit were reportedly planted in Los Angeles in 1858; Andrew Boyle and C. R. Workman later selected promising trees, and Workman supplied budwood to Thomas A. Garey around 1877. The seed-parent cultivar, pollen parent, planter, and exact selection year are not identified.^⁠[10]

Eureka fruit is generally elliptical to oblong with a nipple at the blossom end, yellow rind, juicy flesh, and strong acidity. Seeds are usually few but variable. Rind thickness and fruit size vary across published descriptions and individual grower samples.^{⁠[10]⁠[6]⁠[7]⁠[14]}

UCR describes Eureka as productive and repeatedly bearing, with an open, spreading habit and relatively few thorns. In its Riverside account, the main crop falls from late winter through early summer. Eureka is described as slightly less cold-hardy than Lisbon; this is a qualitative comparison, not a measured temperature limit.^⁠[10]
