Rouse, Wutscher & Youtsey (2001) report that an employee of Sam Henderson, Jr. noticed a limb with stronger red blush and deeper flesh color in 1973 in a 1945-planted Everhard Nursery Ruby Red-strain orchard near Edinburg. Their account says the color persisted into April and May. This is one retrospective account; cited histories differ on the source-tree lineage, which remains unresolved.
