Monticello Citrumelo
Monticello Citrumelo is a rarely encountered citrumelo associated in grower reports with Tom McClendon’s tree in Georgia. McClendon says he once mistook it for Swingle and describes its fruit as grapefruit-like.[1][3]In The Mulberries’ tasting of fruit supplied by McClendon, the flavor resembled tart grapefruit with a slight sour-orange note. The companion scorecard described low sweetness, moderate bitterness and tartness, with 11 °Bx and pH 3.1. Its 250 g entry was provisional, not a verified measured mean.[4]McClendon describes an approximately 25-year-old tree grown from seed obtained from a friend, with abundant flowering. These accounts do not establish exact parentage, a planting date or a measured cold-hardiness limit.[5]
