Okitsu Wase Satsuma

Okitsu Wase originated as a nucellar seedling of Miyagawa Wase in a 1940 experiment involving Poncirus trifoliata pollen. It was one of three sister nucellar seedlings selected in 1949; the pollen context does not establish a trifoliate genetic parent.^⁠[2]⁠[1]

In the 1961–65 historical comparisons reported by Nishiura, Okitsu Wase was more vigorous than Miyagawa, had earlier and more uniform coloring and flatter fruit, and had the highest citric acid among the compared strains. These results are historical trial context, not modern cultivar-wide measurements.^⁠[2]

Fruit somewhat more oblate than Miyagawa, but averages higher in sugar content and matures a week or so earlier. Trees also more vigorous.^⁠[1]
