Discovered
UCR’s Bearss lime page cites Webber (1943) for an account that the Bearss form of Tahiti/Persian lime appeared around 1895 on J. T. Bearss’s property in Porterville, probably as a chance seedling. UCR says the precise circumstances are uncertain; the property association does not establish Bearss as the discoverer.
