Notes

Pinky is a chance Key Lime × Finger Lime hybrid discovered around 2018 from open-pollinated key lime seed. The seedling arose in a mixed planting where key limes and finger limes were grown side by side, with bees presumed to have facilitated the cross. It's hybrid nature became apparent early through the expression of finger lime–type leaf characteristics in seedlings grown from key lime seed. A total of six hybrid seedlings were raised, all of which eventually fruited. Pinky was the first to reach maturity, fruiting in approximately three years from seed, at approximately 3' tall, an unusually short juvenile period likely inherited from the key lime parent, which is known for precocity. The tree is vigorous, reaching roughly 7 ft (2.1 m) tall while fruiting heavily in a 5-gallon container. The fruit exhibits a typical finger lime flavor profile with distinct pink juice vesicles. A notable distinguishing feature is the vesicle morphology: the “caviar” is more elongated and less round than that of standard finger lime cultivars, suggesting a clear influence from the key lime background. Most sibling seedlings were culled due to inferior fruit size, leaving Pinky and a white-fleshed, yellow-rind sister selection. The finger lime pollen parent was obtained from Four Winds Growers and sold simply as “Finger Lime,” with no specific cultivar name recorded.
