Rangpur Lime

Rangpur Lime is an acidic, mandarin-like citrus. UCR’s reproduced general description gives small-to-medium fruit with variable shapes, yellowish-to-reddish-orange rind, and tender, juicy orange flesh; it describes the fruit as strongly acidic and warns that named clones vary in shape, rind, acidity, and flavor.^⁠[5]

UCR describes a vigorous, medium-sized, spreading tree with drooping branches, relatively few small thorns, and purple-tinted new growth and flower buds. Its reproduced historical account considers Rangpur probably Indian in origin and credits Reasoner Brothers of Oneco with its late-nineteenth-century introduction to Florida.^⁠[5]

In Hawaiʻi, CTAHR uses ‘Kona Lime’ for Rangpur Lime as a regional fruit name and recommends further selection to identify particular Hawaiian cultivars. The name alone does not identify one distinct Rangpur clone.^⁠[6]

Video reports describe Rangpur lime fruit as very sour. One tasting of a fruit supplied by Monterey Bay CRFG noted orange flesh, mandarin-and-lemon flavor with a smoky note, and a preference for the fruit in a sweetened drink; another speaker describes orange flesh and mentions juice, salads, and cocktails. These subjective accounts do not provide measured acidity or standardized taste scores.^⁠[7]⁠[8]
