UFR-16 is a University of Florida citrus rootstock identified as selection 46 × 31-02-13. Its patent describes a diploid hybrid of Hirado Buntan pink pummelo and Shekwasha mandarin, with true-to-type asexual propagation demonstrated by grafting onto Swingle citrumelo in Wimauma, Florida.[3]
The UF/IFAS fifth-edition rootstock guide lists first commercial availability in 2015 and intermediate-to-large tree size. Seedling uniformity is listed as 10–49%, with a warning that seedlings are highly variable; the guide leaves freeze tolerance unreported.[2]
