Arcobal Orange

Arcobal is an ornamental Meyer lemon × Doppio Sanguigno blood-orange hybrid, bred at Acireale in 2000. CREA names Santo Recupero, Giuseppe Reforgiato Recupero and Giuseppe Russo as its breeders.^⁠[1]⁠[2]

Its rounded fruit has striking orange and red stripes. Flesh color varies: CREA describes relatively modest red pigmentation, Milazzo describes dark-red ripe flesh, and Brett’s tasting found only slight red coloring. Taste reports emphasize mild orange flavor or lemon-like acidity rather than reliable sweetness. Brett found his fruit very juicy and easy to peel, acidic but edible. The tree forms a dense canopy and has white flowers marked with red. Milazzo reports abundant repeat flowering and January–April fruiting in its conditions; indoor UK fruit developed stripes in late April after a long hang time. Winter shelter is advisable in freezing climates. A Dutch collection reports successful potted overwintering under a matching parentage label, but neither its Arcobal identity nor its suggested −12°C tolerance is verified.
