Accounts describe Avana Tardivo di Ciaculli as a natural bud mutation of Avana/Willowleaf mandarin in Ciaculli, but they do not establish an exact discovery date or discoverer. Slow Italy dates the account to the 1940s; Agrumaria Corleone says the middle of the last century. An Agrumaria interview's English auto-caption suggests the early 1900s, but its translation is uncertain and conflicts with those written accounts. UCR's collection account describes this accession as apparently a bud-sport selection.
