UCR identifies Benecke Trifoliate (spelled “Beneckie” on its CRC page) as a double seedling with unknown parents. Its entry records seed received from Domingo Hardison of Santa Paula in 1958, without crediting him as discoverer, and lists Carrizo and C-35 citranges as rootstocks. UCR reports October–November ripening at Riverside.[1]
Published Benecke evidence includes Valencia scion-leaf nutrient comparisons and controlled greenhouse inoculation of Benecke seedlings with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus. In the greenhouse study, 52% tested positive at 12 months and 96% by 18 months; irregular growth and leaf loss complicated symptom assessment and pathogen detection, so these results do not establish field immunity. The two 1974 nutrient reports by Labanauskas and Bitters may overlap and should not be treated as independent trials.[2][3][4]
