Notes

The world’s most important late-season sweet orange, best known as the gold standard for orange juice. It’s the backbone of juice industries in California, Florida, Brazil, and many Mediterranean regions. Despite the name, it is not definitively from Valencia, Spain—the name likely reflects marketing and association with high-quality Spanish oranges. Valencia predates modern breeding and arose as a chance seedling selection of sweet orange (Citrus sinensis).
