Accounts describe an unidentified citrus selection at McKenzie Farms in Scranton, South Carolina that reached Stan McKenzie as budwood from Germany. In a later forum post, mikkel reports that German grower Bernhard Voss said he did not know the original seed source. Tom McClendon has suggested a Clementine, trifoliate, Clementine F2 lineage, but identifies it as a guess. These are attributed accounts; the original parentage remains undocumented.

Proposed that Carolina Lime may be derived from Dr. John Brown’s CiClem material, possibly through a backcross with Clementine, based on its green flesh, seed characteristics, foliage, fruit quality, and apparent trifoliate ancestry.
