In a 2012 molecular study, Doppio Sanguigno was among the tested blood oranges carrying a complete Tcs1 retrotransposon insertion at the Ruby locus. The study found its large insertion identical to those in Tarocco, Maltaise Sanguine, Sanguinelli, and Moro (Reeds).
