UCR identifies CRC 4204 (VI 766) as an “irradiated selection” of Encore; no irradiation date, dose, or selection location is supplied. UCR says it received budwood from the UCR Breeding Program in 2008; this describes collection provenance, not selection date. Collection rootstocks are Carrizo citrange and C-35 citrange, not parents. Notes and observations quote Roose and Williams (2008-06-18): a late-maturing March selection similar to Encore except seed number (1.7–3.5 seeds per fruit vs 22–32 for Encore); fruit holds well into summer; mean fruit size 18–21 with no unit stated; “Excellent flavor, very sweet, rich and distinctive (15–19 º brix)”; thin, green-spotted Encore-type rind, moderately easy to peel, and severe alternate bearing absent regular pruning and timely harvest. UCR separately lists current Riverside evaluation from March to May, says the selection is unreleased/observation-only, and that budwood is unavailable.
