Ichang Lemon

UCR identifies Ichang lemon as Citrus wilsonii and documents CRC 1215, received as seed from Frank N. Meyer in May 1919. The accession’s parentage and origin are listed as unknown; a historical Citrus ichangensis × Citrus grandis hypothesis remains tentative and does not establish the origin of every Ichang Lemon selection.^⁠[12]A 2021 genetic study analyzed the Corsican accession ICVN0100699 and proposed a pummelo × Yuzu origin, while finding marker contributions associated with pummelo, papeda and mandarin. This accession-level result does not establish the pedigree of all plants called Ichang Lemon.^⁠[17]Ichang Lemon produces large yellow fruit with aromatic rind and many seeds. Tasters commonly describe lemon-like juice with grapefruit notes, suited to lemonade, marmalade and cooking. Reported samples differ in juiciness, acidity and bitterness.^{⁠[12]⁠[19]⁠[25]⁠[23]⁠[20]}Cold performance reports vary among clones and seedlings and with site and protection: sources describe both survival and losses.
