Sunki is a sour mandarin described in historical sources as native to China.[2]The UCR collection records its CRC 3143 accession as seed received from Hiroshi Yoshimura of Osaka in 1956; its parents are unknown.[1]
Descriptions characterize Sunki fruit as small to medium-small and oblate, with a thin, loose rind and a distinctive aroma.[1][2]UCR lists no Riverside ripening season for CRC 3143.[1]
Sunki is used as a rootstock. In a rain-fed São Paulo trial, Sunki-rooted sweet-orange scions produced larger trees and more fruit per tree than Swingle-rooted scions, while Swingle had higher production efficiency and juice percentage; the results describe those grafted combinations.[1][4]
