- 50% Poncirus trifoliata
TaiTri is described in grower accounts as a Taiwanica-type citrus × Poncirus trifoliata hybrid. One retrospective account traces seed from Dr. Soost at UC Riverside to Bill Chapman, but available sources do not establish the original cross date, locality, or verified pollen donor.[3][4]
Cold reports are local and involve different plants: a New Jersey grower reported leaf loss with recovery, the reproduced account describes seven Franklin plants at 1°F and one Houston plant at 5°F, and a Houzz grower says his outdoor plant survived repeated +10°F lows during a mild winter. These anecdotes do not establish a tested minimum.[1][4][5]
Taste accounts differ: one fruit lot was described as very sour but acceptable diluted with sweetened water; another mailed fruit had an unpleasant Poncirus-like odor, while a separate video taster noted sourness, bitterness, and lemon/grapefruit/trifoliate character. One video sample was reported as 71 g and 11.5 °Brix.[3][5][7]
