World of CitrusWorld of CitrusUS SuperSour 1 was selected from a 2003 Hirado Buntan seedling pummelo × Cleopatra mandarin cross made by Kim D. Bowman in Groveland, Florida. The seed-parent accession is not specified. USDA/ARS released SS1 on 2 November 2018.[4][2]
In a single-node cutting comparison, 39% produced healthy nursery liners. The USDA report says seed had not been observed on the clone and uniform apomictic seed propagation had not been evaluated; it recommends cuttings or micropropagation from tested FDACS sources.[4]
UF/IFAS guidance reports SS1 performs well with sweet orange on the ridge and east-coast flatwoods and summarizes higher yields than standard sour orange under tested HLB conditions. USDA trial results also concern grafted sweet-orange scions; outcomes are site- and scion-specific and do not establish SS1 fruit traits or general disease resistance.[3][4]
