Nishiura’s 1964 account attributes the classification of at least five Satsuma types to Tanaka’s 1918 pomological studies and describes Zairai at group/type level (printed p.79); it reports that old Zairai trees remained but were no longer propagated or recommended (p.80). It does not identify a current accession, establish Zairai parentage, or assign the separately described Wase bud-sport origin to Zairai.

Chapter 4, Satsuma Groups (subsection begins p.500; exact printed page for this paragraph not independently verified), local archive lines 1689 and 1693. Hodgson describes Zairai as a group rather than a named variety, with old clones of unknown parentage or origin; he reports usual seediness and questions authenticity of certain imported Zairai clones. These are historical group-level statements and do not identify a particular present accession or establish its parentage.
