5 Star Citrumelo
Other names: 5*, Five-Star
Selections
The circulated 5 Star line is reported as a zygotic seedling from Swingle citrumelo seed, with pollen possibly from selfing or another citrus. The Agrumes-Passion discussion calls it an F2 Swingle hybrid; a later account reports that Bernhard Voss said Ilya’s circulating plant was not his own selected 5*. The pollen parent and identity relative to Voss’s selected material remain unresolved.[1][2]
Grower reports under the 5 Star name describe different cold responses. Ilya reported an uncovered, Poncirus-grafted plant without damage after reported −16 °C overnight and −12 °C the following day; Till reported his own “Swingle 5 Star” dying back to ground in winters with area lows around −10 °C. The reports concern different plants and conditions, with uncertain accession identity and exposure duration, and do not establish a guaranteed hardiness limit.[3][4]
