UCR CVC accession notes: an EMN observation dated 11/23/1988 compares Okitsu Wase CRC 3820 with Kawano Wase CRC 1851. It reports stronger Okitsu color at that time, while many Kawano fruits remained partly green; the observer found both sweet and ready to eat, with similar flavor and only a tentative slight preference for Okitsu.

Summary from abstract: The paper compares saturated and mono-unsaturated long-chain hydrocarbon profiles in juice sacs from six named Citrus unshiu cultivars, including Kawano Wase. The abstract characterizes Kawano Wase's profile as different from the other cultivars, but provides no Kawano-specific values, accession, sample location/date, or sensory assessment. This cultivar-level report does not identify the material as UCR CRC 1851; full text was not accessible.

Summary from hosted chapter: The abstract reports nine Kawano Wase trees from a commercial orchard in Vidrice, Neretva Valley, studied in early November 2021 and grouped by yield efficiency; it reports effects on yield density, titratable acidity, and TSS/TA, but provides no accession or rootstock. The introduction attributes early Kawano Wase origin to clonal selection of Owari, citing Bakarić (1983); this secondary account does not establish parentage or identify UCR CRC 1851. ResearchGate lists pp. 127–133, while the CROSBI book record lists pp. 129–137, so the page span is unresolved.

Summary from article: A Neretva Valley orchard study harvested Kawano Wase at Opuzen on 15 November 2021. For compositional analysis, 30 fruits per cultivar from different trees were divided into three groups of 10; an additional 30 harvested fruits per cultivar were used for physicochemical measurements. Table 1 reports mass 112.68 ± 13.45 g, firmness 2.09 ± 1.09 kg cm⁻², TSS 11.68 ± 0.70%, TA 1.30 ± 0.23%, TSS/TA 9.20 ± 1.42, and pH 3.52 ± 0.12. No clone/accession is stated; these values describe study lots, not UCR CRC 1851. Article page date: 14 March 2023.

Summary from article: A 2014–2016 full-bloom study at Opuzen, Neretva Valley, sampled flowers from Kawano Wase, Okitsu, Chahara, and Zorica. The Kawano Wase tables report N=720, mean nectar volume 22.79 µL (SD 8.10) and mean nectar sugar concentration 20.66% (SD 6.19). These are flower-nectar readings, not fruit juice or sensory measurements. The study does not identify a UCR accession.

Summary from article: Certified Kawano Wase planting material was harvested at optimal maturity in autumn 2022 from a commercial Opuzen, Neretva Valley orchard; the trees were 8–10 years old and grafted on Poncirus trifoliata. The 30 fruits per variety came from different trees; no clone or accession number is reported. The paper reports laboratory juice chemistry and volatile-profile measurements, including 334.04 µg kg⁻¹ total aroma-volatile concentration for its Kawano Wase lot; these are not sensory-panel scores or UCR CRC 1851-specific findings. Online publication date 18 June 2024; issue date 19 July 2024.

This presentation groups “Kawano Wase” under an “OCTOBERISH” RIPENING heading (printed slide 7). This is list placement, not a measured harvest date or identified fruit sample. The deck has no single verified publication date: it includes a “2003 Version” label, a slide dated 8/19/14, “Spring 2016,” and 2017 trial data. Its Owari rootstock trial and early-satsuma plot do not provide Kawano Wase results.

The CCPP availability table (printed p. 4) places “Kawano Wase Satsuma” in its “Seedless Varieties” column, whose definition allows an occasional seed. This is a table classification, not a counted fruit trial or verified CRC 1851 accession. Kahn’s discussion describes Satsumas generally as having very few or no functioning pollen/ovules; that is group-level context. Article printed pp. 3–5.
